If you send us an email or a message either directly or via this website then we will retain a copy of the information you send us on on our email system, including your name, message, email address and any other details you choose to send us.

If you post a comment then we will retain a copy of the information you submit on our website, including your name, message, email address and any other contact details you choose to enter.

If you sign up to our mailing list then we will retain a copy of your name and email address on our mailing list system (currently hosted and operated via mailchimp.com).

If you become a financial supporter via a fundraising website such as Kickstarter or Patreon then we will retain a copy of your submitted information on the relevant fundraising website, including your name, email address and any other details you submit.

This website along with its associated mailing list and email accounts is owned and managed by The London Diplomatic Association (LDA)

Any message you send us via our website contact forms or via email will be stored on the email systems used to operate our email addresses all of which currently end with the suffix @londondiplomaticassoc.com. If you sign up to our mailing list then we will retain a copy of your name and email on our mailing list system (using a service such as mailchimp.com).

  1. Why is your information being collected?

For those who sign up to our mailing list, the aim is to keep you occasionally notified of any update or development which may be of interest to you. If you send us a message via email or via a website contact form then we would retain your email and related contact information so that we can reply to your message or let you know of any follow-up information that we feel may be of interest to you in the future.

  1. Who will your information be shared with?

We will not share your information with any third parties. However, your information must be stored somewhere and we use various services to store it depending partly on how you submit your information to us. For example, it may be stored on our website (in the case of posting a comment), on the servers of mailchimp.com (in the case of subscribing to our newsletter), on the servers of our email hosting providers in the case of sending us a message or email) and on the servers of patreon.com or of kickstarter.com (in the case of making a donation). We may also change where we store your information.

  1. What will be the effect on you of our collecting your information?

If you send us an email or contact form message then the effect of our collecting your details is that we may contact you if we believe that something may be of interest to you. If you sign up to our mailing list then the effect of our collecting your information is that we may notify you of any major update or development which may be of interest to you. If you become one of our financial supporters then we may contact you to express appreciation or concerns relating to your agreed financial support, with the possibility of a conversation ensuing from there if you are inclined to reply.

  1. How are cookies used?

In addition to information you send us, we may also collect limited technical information for general statistical purposes. This information relates to your computer, including where available your IP address, operating system and browser type. This is for purposes of general administration and to report aggregate information about the activity of our users. The aim is merely to collect statistical data about our users’ browsing actions and patterns and does not identify any individual.

For the same reason, we may obtain information about your general internet usage by using a cookie file which is stored on the hard drive of your computer. Cookies contain information that is transferred to your computer’s hard drive. They help us to improve our site and to deliver a better and more personalised service. They enable us:

e. To give us a broad picture of how users are interacting with our website

  1. What potential problems do you need to be aware of?

Even though our website uses a secure SSL connection, we are nevertheless at risk of being the victim of a security breach by hackers. This means that we cannot provide any guarantee that the information you send us could not be intercepted by a malicious third party who operates beyond our control or consent. We do not believe that we are likely to suffer a security breach because nothing we do is likely to be of much interest to hackers. However, since many websites face this risk it is one which we feel we should mention.

In case you are worried about this possibility then our advice is to avoid sending us any information which you are concerned about protecting. For example, feel free to use a fake name and a non-primary email address to ensure that any resulting consequences are not of significant concern to you. Once we are communicating with you by email then the security of our communications with you is likely to be far better since we will be using a more professional service such as Gmail for sending and receiving email messages. However, even when using a third party service for email there can be no absolute guarantees when it comes to security and any initial message sent via our website cannot be considered absolutely secure.
